Meet our May Box Makers

Our May Mother’s Day Irish Subscription Box was a special one. We curated the box with women in mind and managed to include four gorgeous products which are all designed and made by Irish women in business. Meet our Irish artisan makers below.

Dublin Herbalists – County Tipperary, Ireland

Dublin Herbalists was founded in 2012 by Claire Brett, Dip. Herb., ND. Indulging a new hobby, Herbalist and Naturopath Claire began developing recipes for a simple moisturiser made from entirely natural ingredients in her home kitchen. Her homemade cream proved so popular with family and friends that she launched Dublin Herbalists in 2013. Initially selling online and with the products being stocked in the first shop in January 2014, Dublin Herbalists’ ethos and product range has since enjoyed a dedicated and ever-increasing fanbase in Ireland and abroad.

All of Dublin Herbalists products are made up of carefully chosen floral waters, natural butters, and active ingredients to intensely hydrate, deeply nourish and brighten up tired and weary skin. Everything put into the products is 100% natural, and never tested on animals. That means no parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate or other nasty hidden ingredients.

Holly Somerville Botanical Artist – County Wicklow, Ireland

Holly Somerville is an Irish artist and designer working in a restored millhouse in the Wicklow mountains. Trained at Oxford University and Edinburgh College of Art, she paints highly detailed watercolours using botanical subjects and other found items from her garden. Holly is delighted to bring to you her fresh, bright giftware designed using her beautiful paintings in a contemporary style. Holly has recently joined sculptor David McGlynn and jeweller Dylan Evans to open a shop and studio in the picturesque village of Enniskerry, County Wicklow. Here she is selling her new range of botanical art giftware – mugs, cushions, tea towels, makeup bags, greeting cards, and limited edition prints, along with a few original paintings.

Big Red Kitchen – County Meath, Ireland

Nicola Smyth started Big Red Kitchen as a hobby in 2010, after attending a local craft fair and seeing some homemade jams for sale. This reminded her of her childhood visiting her cousins in Navan, collecting blackberries and helping her aunt to make jam.

Nicola began by attending a few local craft fairs and stocking her local café in Naul, Co. Meath. Her ethos was simple – to make really tasty preserves the old-fashioned way, using high quality ingredients. However, she also didn’t want to just do what everyone else was doing, so she experimented with recipes to mix some innovation with tradition, and the result – so far – is the product range she has today.

Conker Tree Studio – County Kilkenny, Ireland

Based in Callan, Co. Kilkenny, Justyna Mackowska specialises in the design and handcrafting of quirky greeting cards, framed wall art, Irish coin keepsakes and other gifts for people inspired by the beauty and wit of Ireland, its people and language. Carefully chosen warm and earth tones, recycled paper and natural twine detail give them a charming, rustic twist.

Working from her home studio in south Kilkenny (with enormous horse chestnut tree branches peeking through the windows) Justyna creates cards and gifts that appeal to men, women and children of all ages and nationalities. Each product is lovingly designed and created in Ireland – a product that becomes a treasured keepsake. Their uniqueness sets them apart from the usual run-of-the-mill, mass-printed products on the market.

If only money could talk… Authentic Irish pre-euro and pre-decimal coin keepsakes: Cufflinks, Keyrings and Earrings. A unique birth year gift but also great for other occasions or just as a souvenir from Ireland. A small but exciting piece of Irish history that will live on… Coins are circulated, gently cleaned and polished. Quirky story and beautiful gift box included.
